Background of my Magazine.

I focused on the R&B genre for my magazine. I looked at many different magazines of this genre to try and influence me in the creation of my own magazine. There were two main magazines i focused on in this process. Firstly, i focused on Vibe magazine. I found that the magazine uses a clever house style which is used in order to attract and 'catch the eye' of the readers. The style is key in the production of a magazine, as it interacts hugely with the audience and persuades them to purchase the magazine. Another magazine I focused on was Billboard. Billboard magazine is smarty laid out and use sophisticated photos. These images have influenced me in the different pictures I have taken because the ones on the Billboard magazine are very well taken. Both magazines use different set colour schemes, which help make the magazine stand out greatly and makes it look very effective. For my magazine, I have chosen to stick to a certain colour scheme throughout to make it look professional and well laid out.

Final title name and design.

This is my final design for my magazine title. I like this title, because all the contrasting colours work in nicely together. The convention of a main title for a magazine is that it has to be big and bold ensuring that it stands out. Also, they must stand out against the magazine front cover, ensuring the audience can see the title. With this, the title must be relevant to the genre of the magazine. Therefore, I believe that my title is good because it follows the right conventions for a main title. The black bold writing with the red outline, looks really good, as it makes it stand out. Furthermore, the grey background enables this more. Also, the background, gives it a nice urban feel. When creating this, I typed the writing in first, but then added the special effects in, which ensures that it looks much better and stands out much more. Also, the special effects help relate it to the genre.

Further title designs

These two title designs are okay. However, I think they could do with some improvements. The first one is relatively similar to one's I have created before. The dark writing allows the title to stand out. Also, the shadowing effect helps draw the audience in. The writing is in bold, which again is key, making it stand out. The second one, I like more than the first one. Personally because there is more colour which makes it stand out. Mixed with the bold writing, it stands out nicely. The use of the computer application to design the heading was relatively easy, and it looks really effective, therefore i'm pleased with it.

Music Magazine title ideas.

Similarly to the other title designs, these follow the main conventions nicely. The first one is nice, as it has a nice colour scheme. The nice red font coloring with a shadowy blue background fits nicely. This ensures that it stands out. The exclamation mark is a dramatic effect that is used, in order to attract readers. The title links in with the younger generation of the target audience, emphasised by the letter 'Z' at the end of the title. The second title, uses the logo of a type of headphones. Similarly, there name is beats, therefore it links in nicely. However, I don't like the design. Personally, the logo does not fit in and the writing doesn't look magazine friendly and I don't think that it fits nicely.

Key Media terms for a magazine

There are many different key terms that magazine editors as such use often when analysing magazines. These include;

  • Bar code: These are a strip of bars that are located on a front cover of the magazine. They are used to track sales by retailers.
  • Masthead:  This is usually printed at the top of the front page. The masthead gives details about the publisher, staff and the contact information. It can also be found on pages such as the contents  or a leader page. An example of when the masthead is on a contents page is in a football matchday programme. The masthead is also favourably used for the logo too, giving out the name of the magazine and the chosen fonts used.
  • Publisher: These are the people that publish the magazine and gain a profit from them.
  • Strapline: This is a sentence under the heading which 'sells' the magazine article to the reader and keeps them interested. These are key as straplines often determine readers reactions and whether they will continue buying the magazine.
  • Consumer magazines: These have a large market range, as they continue to focus on a broad range of topics.

Drawn Sketch of my school magazine front cover

This is my drawn sketch of my front cover of my preliminary task. For me, the sketch is really detailed, and from this plan, I aim to make my magazine front cover this detailed. From the plan, I've drawn up the different colours that the different sections of the magazine will be in. Furthermore, I've wrote about the different pictures that will be used and the information that will be featured in the magazine in this issue. The picture on the right is my main front cover for my preliminary task.
