So far, I believe that everything has gone really well for my magazines that I have produced. Firstly, I took into account the task for the preliminary project. This was to create a new school magazine front cover and contents page. Overall, I feel this went well, as I stuck to the conventions that a magazine front cover should follow. I then went out and took pictures for the magazine, which again I feel was a great success. Most of my pictures look good and look well taken. However, there are some which maybe are not the best, therefore I will be discussing in detail why they have not been used in a later post. The pictures that I did choose however were key, as they represented the school genre in much more detail. I used the logo of the school, as it added more to the schooling genre. It also established the location of where the magazine was coming from. I did much research on the key conventions of a school magazine for the preliminary task, which helped me even more, as it allowed me to learn and insert them into my magazine. Finally, publishing the magazine was a rather simple process because of the planning I conducted. Plus, I knew all the key conventions of a school magazine, therefore I just had to take this knowledge and put it into a magazine front cover. The text I used for the headings was different to the one that I used for the normal writing, showing a comparison between the two. The main reason being that I want the main headings and the title to stand out more. Furthermore, the pictures are shown in medium shot types allowing the readers to focus on the use of Mise En Scene and the facial expressions of the students. The low camera angle conveys the two lads dominance in the picture, which links in with the fact they are going to be in the main article, showing a clear relationship between image and story. The colour scheme also forges a nice relationship between the magazine and the target audience, as the bright colours being used to give out a nice welcoming atmosphere, which is more likely to attract customers.
Again, I feel that the contents page went really well as it looks professional. For me, I believe that it was another simple process for me. I researched the conventions similiarly as I did for the front cover and then placed them into a contents page. Within the research, I saw that in many school magazines, they contain an editor's letter. This was a big influence to me, therefore I decided to add it into my contents page. Furthermore, I made all the headings and subheadings stand out, by using the boldness tool, ensuring that the audience can read it clearly. I have labelled the page numbers in corresponding order, ensuring that the readers can pick out the page to the information they mostly want to view. All contents pages have page numbers and what is on these pages, therefore it was important that I added that in. Finally, I inserted the front cover onto my contents page, ensuring that the readers know what magazine they are reading. The picture I added in was to ensure that the readers know the genre of the magazine and the location of where this magazine is coming from. I used a different font type for the contents page, to show a difference from the contents page and the front cover. The font is rather groovey, giving out an exciting new look, linking to the fact that the magazine is new.
Overall, I feel that the preliminary task was a big success for me. However in the terms of improving, I feel that on the front cover, I shouldn't of squashed it all in as it could come across messy to some people. Again, the same on the contents. I will include these changes into my main task for the music magazine.
