My overall target audience for the music magazine production is for males and females within the age range of around 16-30. This conveys a sense of a wide target audience. The magazine is aimed around people who like the R&B, Hip-hop or Urban genres. Despite the wide target audience, the magazine will be mostly aimed at the younger generation, as they are more likely to relate to these genre types of music. Magazines such as ‘Vibe’ and ‘Flavour’ are based generally around the R&B genre. These two magazines have influenced me heavily in the production of my own music magazine. In my magazine, to link it into the target audience I will include the different conventions that magazines should include when focusing on the teenage target audience. This would include;
- A bold heading, making the magazine get recognised.
- Information being split up under subheadings, splitting the information up.
- A relevant picture, that relates to the information in the magazine. Usually, the picture is in a medium shot.
- Colour scheme. For the colour scheme, It is key that you link it in with the target audience. For a teenage/ adult magazine, you would need to use relatively bright colours, as this is the stereotypical trait for this audience.
- Different exclusives, that will attract the target audience to buy the magazine. These are dramatic techniques.
- Interviews that will interest the readers. Maybe taking a poll of their favorite artists, and ensure that they have got an interview from them.
- Include websites, allowing the readers to visit, to get extras. The extra's are another technique used by the best magazines to draw in more readers.
